Chicago, Ill. — The Illinois medical community is mourning the sudden loss of Dr. Susan Ayfer Orhan, MD, FACOG, a highly respected obstetrician and gynecologist whose career was defined by clinical excellence, innovation, and deep compassion for her patients.

Dr. Orhan was a board-certified OB/GYN widely recognized for her commitment to women’s health and her leadership in advanced gynecological care. She practiced at Elite Women’s Care in Hoffman Estates, where patients and colleagues alike described her as a physician who combined technical expertise with a personalized, empathetic approach to medicine.

Her medical journey began internationally, where she earned her medical degree from Gazi University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. She later completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, where she distinguished herself through her dedication to patient care and academic excellence.

Dr. Orhan further expanded her expertise through a postdoctoral fellowship in genetics and immunology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. This advanced training contributed to her unique and comprehensive approach to obstetric and gynecologic care, particularly in complex and high-risk cases.

Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Orhan was a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Medical Association.
