Walker Nelson Obituary:  A 25‑year‑old man from Minneapolis died from injuries sustained in a skiing accident at the Welch Village Ski & Snowboard Area in southern Minnesota earlier this month, authorities confirmed.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple emergency calls shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 1 reporting that a skier had collided with a chairlift support tower at the resort near Red Wing.

Deputies arriving at the scene found the man unconscious and immediately began administering CPR alongside ski patrol and paramedics from the Red Wing Fire Department, according to officials. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at 9:15 p.m. that evening.

The victim was identified by law enforcement as Walker Phenix Nelson, 25, of Minneapolis. Eyewitnesses on the slopes saw the crash and notified emergency responders, though details about what led to the collision have not been released.

Welch Village officials expressed sorrow over the fatality in a statement to local media, saying the ski area was “heartbroken” and extended “deepest sympathy to the skier’s family, friends and loved ones.” The resort also thanked its own ski patrol, mountain staff and emergency personnel for their swift response to the incident.

No further information about the circumstances of the crash has been released, and investigations into the specific cause of the accident are ongoing.
